How to Safely Uninstall Norton Antivirus

Norton Antivirus is a great tool for protecting our computers. However, it's also one of the biggest resource-hogs of the entire catalog of software on the market, making many people want to uninstall it from their computers. This is okay, except it's extremely difficult to remove by "traditional" methods. You need to use a secret method which computer technicians use...

Norton is a very unusual program because it has so many different things running in the background. All different processes and services are constantly keeping your computer in check, which makes removing this software extremely difficult for any uninstall application. Normally, you would remove Norton's by clicking "uninstall" in the ADD / REMOVE programs section of Windows. This will remove part of Norton's, but in order to remove all the other parts from your computer, you will need to do some things manually.

Firstly, you should go into "My Computer" and browse to C:/PROGRAM FILES /NORTON ANTIVIRUS and then delete the entire folder. This will remove all of the program files on your computer, preventing your computer from actually running any of the Norton applications, even when you've uninstalled it. You then need to go and remove all the "links" that Windows has with Norton. These links are in the form of registry keys, which are kept in a big database called the "registry", and they tell Windows how to load the program and what to do with it.

It's important you remove these registry keys by searching for REGEDIT.EXE, opening it up and then clicking on "Search". You should then type in "Norton" and see what comes up. After making a backup of the registry, you should proceed to remove all the registry keys that Norton has, essentially cutting the tool out of Windows completely. Doing this will remove any trace of the software from your system, freeing up vital system resources to keep your system fast and reliable.... but there's a problem . Although doing this will remove most of Norton Antivirus, it's one of the most risky and difficult tasks you can do on a computer.

Luckily, there's a simple uninstaller program called Wizard Uninstaller which does it all for you.
